Employment History
Web Technical Manager (acting), Victoria and Albert Museum, London (Aug - Dec 2006)
At short notice I stepped into the role of Web Technical Manager, providing guidance on all technical aspects of the Web. I was responsible for maintaining and developing the museum's two principal sites: the V&A museum site and the Museum of Childhood. Together these sites received well over a million visits a month.
During this time I gave numerous presentations to stakeholders, and was invited to give a Keynote speech about our use of Web 2.0 technologies to the New Zealand National Digital Forum.
Web Developer, Victoria and Albert Museum, London (Sept 2005 - Aug 2006)
As part of a two-man technical team, I was responsible for maintaining and developing the V& website, using XHTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, XML and XSL.
Had responsibility for the addition of Web 2.0 technologies to the site, including RSS feeds, artist blogs and two series of pioneering museum podcasts. I produced the podcasts from scratch, recording and editing original material, and publicising them through online and print media.
Rapidly learned to use Rhythmyx, the musuem's content management system, adding new functionality and building accessible templates as required.
Researched and wrote reports on web technologies including, among others, Google search patterns, online 3D objects and RSS feeds.
Web Developer (client-side), Redhouse Lane, London (Dec 2004 - Sept 2005)
Produced robust standards-compliant XHTML/CSS mark-up for clients including the DTI, the Big Lottery Fund and the British National Space Centre.
Ensured stringent accessibility and usability requirements were met, according to WCAG and RNIB guidelines.
Produced an induction CD-ROM for the charity PLAN, using Director and Lingo.
Web Developer (freelance), London (May - Dec 2004)
Among other short freelance jobs I produced the PHP/MySQL elements of a Flash-based web application for Fingal Design, a Fulham-based agency.
During this period I spent several months trekking in Peru, Bolivia and New Zealand and a month teaching English in Portugal.
Web Developer (server-side), GoCom Media, London (June 2003 - May 2004)
Developed PHP/MySQL applications using both function-based and object-orientated architectures. These included a catalogue search facility for a wine merchant and an online menu manager now used by several London restaurants.
Optimized web site meta-data and content to achieve high search engine rankings.
Drafted and presented storyboards, site-maps and technical proposals to clients.
Web and Multimedia Developer, Concise, London (Oct 2000 - June 2003)
PHP/XHTML/CSS website development, including a new CMS-driven site for the Basic Skills Agency and Cisco TAC, a webcast seminar registration system for Cisco Systems.
End-to-end design and development of several brochure sites (www.c-seven.com, www.concisegroup.com)
Used Director and Lingo to produce CD-ROMs for Coca Cola, Hiscox Insurers and the FA
